Yorke and Cole ready for Bayern rematch
The Treble-winners are currently in training for the charity game that will pit a team of United all-stars against their Bayern Munich counterparts on 14 June in aid of the Manchester United Foundation, with pre-match entertainment provided by musical acts Union J, Ella Eyre and Ben Haenow.
Yorke and Cole became famous for their attacking alliance, which seemed almost telepathic at times, and both have been heavily involved in promoting next month's event. So are they feeling any pressure to roll back the years and perform at their very best?
“No, not at all,” Yorke told ManUtd.com, with trademark smile. "It is a great pleasure and opportunity to come back to Old Trafford and play. We are just excited to be back.
"Everyone knows about the combination between myself and Coley, and we will reminisce about the old days. We think we could relive those moments, but the reality is can we still produce that? We will definitely have a go at it and have fun on the day. It is all for a good cause and we will try to entertain as many fans who are coming out to support the event.”
Cole is also laid back when quizzed on the expectations to impress. "Nah, there’s none whatsoever! You get to an age when people don’t expect us to be running around like we did 15 or more years ago, when me and Yorkie were running around doing the little dummies and all of that.
“Now, it is a case of coming back to Old Trafford and enjoying the occasion. If we score some goals then the fans will be happy. But will we talk about our movements before the game? Even if we did, I don’t think we could now do the movements we did 15 years ago anyway – talking about it would make no difference!”
Although Yorke's partnership with Cole will be among the main attractions of the charity event, Dwight is relaxed about the game itself and says raising money for the Manchester United Foundation is the most important aspect of the day.
“Coley and I lived the dream and we know as players,” the former Reds striker explains. “So we are just going out there to enjoy the occasion. At the end of the day we know it is for a good cause.
"The fans are coming out and are expecting us to perform to a certain level. The good thing is that we are playing against a legends team. Their guys are as old as us, some of them are older than us, so we should be able to cope with it!”
Dwight and Andy will play for Manchester United Legends vs Bayern Munich All-Stars on Sunday 14 June, kick-off 14:30 BST. Tickets are priced from £20 for adults, from £5 for under 16s. Hospitality packages are also available from £99. All proceeds go to the Manchester United Foundation. To book tickets, visit manutd.com/legendsareback or call 0161 826 6920.
